block是可數(shù)名詞,基本意思是指帶有直邊由較硬材料構(gòu)成的長方形的塊狀物，如木塊、石塊或其他固體材料,引申則指高大的建筑物,即大廈、大樓等。在美國, block是指四面是馬路的一塊街區(qū),或街區(qū)之間的距離; 在澳大利亞則指鬧市或繁華的大馬路。
block用作單位詞,其前可加some等修飾。block修飾不可數(shù)名詞時,表示復(fù)數(shù)意義的名詞不變,只需將block變?yōu)?em>blocks; 修飾可數(shù)名詞復(fù)數(shù)時, block和所修飾的名詞都須變成復(fù)數(shù)。
