常用用法

這四個詞的共同意思是“岸”。其區(qū)別是：
1.coast指的是陸地和海交界的一條狹長的海岸,通常和地理位置、天氣、海防等密切聯(lián)系在一起。例如:
There are many islands off the England coast.英國海岸有很多島嶼。
shore含義較廣,一般指陸地和較大水域的交界地帶,是和水相對而言的。例如:
They have a beautiful house on the shore of the lake.他們在這個湖畔有一所美麗的房子。
bank一般指的是河岸,有較大的坡度,含有“堤”的意思。例如:
We stand on the river bank to fish.我們站在河岸上釣魚。
beach一般只是shore或coast的一部分,是被海(湖或河)水沖刷而有沙或卵石積存的地方,可作“沙灘”解。例如:
They spent their holiday at a pleasure beach in Hawaii.他們在夏威夷美麗的海灘上度過了假日。
2.beach和shore都可以表示“海濱勝地”,但shore指近海的地方, beach則指那些有海濱浴場或可進行陽光浴的海灘,且beach也可用來指河岸,但坡度較緩,一般漲潮時有水,退潮時無水,而且通常指沙灘,而不是泥岸。例如:
I spent the summer at the shore but I only spent a part of each day at the beach.我這一夏天都是在海灘上度過的,可在海濱浴場中卻只花了一部分時間。
A beach was formed along the wide bend of the river.在寬闊的河曲處形成了一條河岸。
