常用用法
- last的基本意思是“持續(xù)”“耐久”。引申可表示“夠…之用,使得以維持下去,經(jīng)受住”等。
- last常用作不及物動詞,不接賓語,也不用于被動結(jié)構(gòu),通常由介詞for引起的時間狀語修飾,延續(xù)時間短時for可省略。
- last的現(xiàn)在分詞lasting可用作形容詞,在句中作定語表示“持久的”。
- last用作名詞時,其復(fù)數(shù)形式不變。
- lastly的用法與firstly基本一致，但lastly常表示“末了”，可以在上文沒有用到Firstly,Secondly,Thirdly等詞時使用Lastly去表示最終要表述的點；
- last一般用完成時有時也用過去完成時還與介詞連用，如at；
- last有最近過去的意思后可接week，month，Monday等，但不可以接morning等詞，如last morning應(yīng)用yesterday morning來表示；
- at last的使用較at the last來的普遍，與其同義的短語有at long last和at the long last，只是它們的程度更深一點，有“雖然經(jīng)過了長時期”的含義。要注意的是，這幾種表達(dá)方式都表示時間，而不是“末了”。At (the) last, I have to repeat my advice. 這樣是不可以說的，應(yīng)改At (the) last為Finally或Lastly。
- last做動詞時是持續(xù)的意思。The supply will last five days. 存貨將持續(xù)5天。
- last Monday等表達(dá)方式可作狀語短語，不需要在其前面加介詞，如on或in。但是若將last Monday改成Monday last，就需要介詞on。They arrived last Monday. They arrived on Monday last.
- 事件，行為，產(chǎn)品通常與latest連用而不是last來表明新的或最近的，要注意這兩個詞的區(qū)別與聯(lián)系；
- last單用時，還可表示“last letter”，作最近的信解。As I said in my last, I am in good health. 就如我在最近的信中提到的一樣，我身體很好。
- 用于表示“最后”時，一定要有三個或三個以上的人或物，才會出現(xiàn)其中一個是last。若是只有兩個的話，就不可以用last來表示，如在A和B中，B是second或latter，絕不是last；
- 與last所表示的“最后的”不同的是，latest表示“截至現(xiàn)在（或當(dāng)時）為止最后的”，即“最近過去的”。 返回 lasts

詞語辨析
- 這兩個詞都與持續(xù)時間有關(guān)。其區(qū)別是：
- last指某事持續(xù)一段時間或某東西夠用,后面不一定要用時間短語;take指某人需要一段時間完成某事,后面必須接時間短語。例如:
- I hope this fine weather lasts.但愿這樣的天氣持續(xù)下去。
- I'll clear up, you take too long.我來整理,你花的時間太多了。

- 這組詞的共同含義是“持續(xù)存在”。其區(qū)別是：
- survive指繼續(xù)生存,有時含有經(jīng)歷艱險之義; persist可以指人持續(xù)超過了預(yù)料的時間,也可以指堅持,還可指令人厭惡地持續(xù); last專指繼續(xù)存在,而這種存在并不是當(dāng)然的,往往附有表明時間長短的狀語。
- 這兩個詞都有“最后的”意思,?？苫Q使用。例如:
- I will think the matter over and give you a final〔last〕 answer.我考慮一下這個問題,然后給你一個答復(fù)。

- 1.in the end的意思是經(jīng)過許多變化、困難和捉摸不定的情況之后,某事才發(fā)生。例如:
- We made eight different plans for our holiday, but in the end we went to Harbin again .我們定了八種不同的度假方案,但是最后我們又一次去了哈爾濱。
- 2.at last指一個動作從發(fā)生一直延續(xù)到結(jié)束,意思是“終于”。例如:
- In spite of every obstacle, we arrived at last.沖破種種障礙,我們終于到達(dá)了。
- Her wish to be a doctor has come true at last.她想做一個醫(yī)生的愿望終于實現(xiàn)了。
- She felt joyful at the prospect of seeing him at last.她為終將看到他而感到欣喜。
- 3.finally在列舉事物時可以用來引出最后一項內(nèi)容,或者是直接放在動詞之前, in the end和at last則不能。例如:
- We need to increase productivity.We need to reduce unemployment.And finally, we need to make our exports competitive on world market.我們需要提高生產(chǎn)力,我們需 要降低失業(yè)率; 最后我們還需要使我們的出口商品在國際市場上具有競爭力。
- They finally cracked the defence and scored a goal.他們終于突破了防守,射進一球。
- 4.finally在主觀上有“等了好久才…”的含義。例如:
- After toying it three times, we finally managed to have a holiday in Greece.經(jīng)過三次延期之后,我們終于在希臘度了一次假。
- What by policy and (what by) force they finally liberated that town.部分用策略,部分用武力,他們終于解放了那個城鎮(zhèn)。
- 5.at last也在主觀上有“等了好久才…”的含義,但語氣上比finally強得多,且at last也可以作感嘆語。例如:
- When at last they found him, he was almost dead.當(dāng)人們終于找到他時,他快死了。
- At last!Where the hell have you been?總算找到你了!你到底上哪去了?
- 這兩個詞都是late的最高級。用作形容詞時，last 在意義上和latest有點相近，實際上，它們的涵義和使用場合是不一樣的。
- last指連續(xù)順序中的最后一個，一般譯作“最后的”，有時譯為“上一次的”或“過去的”。last的對語是first.
- latest表示時間上的“最近”，一般譯作“最近的”、“最新的”或“最晚的”。latest的對語是earliest.
- 這些動詞均含有“持續(xù)”之意。
- persist強調(diào)超過了指定的或正常的時間。
- last著重存在的時間相當(dāng)長，超過正常的或所期望的時間。
- endure與last同義，但還指經(jīng)受住，有能耐忍受而并不受損。
