sorry的基本意思是“感到傷心,覺得難過”,指因損失、創(chuàng)傷、不幸和煩惱等引發(fā)的或大或小的悲傷,往往夾有一種遺憾的感覺; 若用以表示批評,往往含有憐憫、譏諷或關心的意味。引申可表示“對不起的”,主要用于表示道歉和對自己所做的表示后悔。作此解時只能作表語。
sorry作“對不起的”解時,無比較級和最高級形式。
sorry后可跟that從句,動詞不定式,也可跟for〔about〕短語(其后跟名詞,動名詞,代詞或wh-從句), at短語(其后跟動名詞)。
sorry后接不定式的一般式表示對正在做的或將來做的事表示難過或可惜,接動詞不定式的完成式則表示對做過某事而感到難過或可惜。
sorry作“可憐的”“可悲的”解時,只用作定語。
