常用用法

suitable的意思是“適當(dāng)?shù)?適宜的,恰當(dāng)?shù)摹?指事物與某種場(chǎng)合環(huán)境或條件的要求或需要相適應(yīng)。
suitable在句中可用作定語或表語。
“suitable+ n. ”短語常可后接介詞for引起的短語或動(dòng)詞不定式作定語。
suitable for在句中還可用作后置定語,意為“適合…的”。

這組詞都有“適當(dāng)?shù)摹薄昂线m的”意思。其區(qū)別是：
1.proper強(qiáng)調(diào)經(jīng)過判斷覺得是適宜的、合理的; fit指適合某種目的、用途、條件、要求或某人有能力勝任某種工作或職務(wù)等; suitable強(qiáng)調(diào)適合某種環(huán)境、情況或某種特殊需要; appropriate除指某一事物符合一定的目的外,也可指人、物品、特征、地方、時(shí)間等被社會(huì)公認(rèn)為正確。例如:
Thick woollen clothes are not appropriate for a hot summer day.厚的毛衣不適于夏天穿。
They will visit the country again at a proper time.他們將在適當(dāng)?shù)臅r(shí)候再度訪問這個(gè)國(guó)家。
These clothes are suitable for a weekend.這些衣服適宜于周末穿。
That man is not fit for the position.那個(gè)人不適合那一位置。
2.proper是較正式的用法; fit是最普通用法。
