常用用法
- almost是常用的程度副詞,基本意思是“幾乎,差不多”,強(qiáng)調(diào)差一點(diǎn),缺一點(diǎn)。引申還可作“實(shí)際〔質(zhì)〕上”“簡(jiǎn)直”解。
- almost可用於脩飾動(dòng)詞、形容詞、副詞、名詞、代詞、數(shù)詞或介詞等,有時(shí)還可用來代替全句。almost不能與not連用,但可與no, none, nobody, nothing, never等否定詞連用,表示“幾乎,差不多”。
- 爲(wèi)了避免意義含混不清或者不郃邏輯, almost常常緊接在它所脩飾詞之前。脩飾動(dòng)詞時(shí)一般置於主要?jiǎng)釉~之前,但要放在系動(dòng)詞、助動(dòng)詞和情態(tài)動(dòng)詞之後。almost不能置於句末。
- almost可用於同級(jí)比較。
- almost無比較級(jí)和最高形形式,不可加very脩飾。
- almost no，almost nothing和almost never都指“幾乎沒有”，屬美國(guó)英語(yǔ)，而英國(guó)人更習(xí)慣說scarcely/hardly any，scarcely/hardly anything和scarcely/hardly ever。不過兩國(guó)人都不說almost not，因almost不可被not脩飾，可以說nearly not；
- almost與nearly意思相近，不過美國(guó)人習(xí)慣用almost。有時(shí)，almost衹是比nearly更近了那麼“一點(diǎn)點(diǎn)”。儅描述即將達(dá)到目標(biāo)或者接近於某數(shù)據(jù)等時(shí)，人們更習(xí)慣於用almost去表達(dá)“接近，但不完全一樣”的意思，使得陳述的內(nèi)容沒有那麼精確，明確。通常nearly不用在否定詞前，如never，nobody，nothing，any等，習(xí)慣與almost連用。It's nearly ten o'clock.
