后綴-ite含義、詞源和詞例
-ite是個(gè)直接來(lái)自法語(yǔ)的名詞后綴。它有兩種作用：
1）加在名詞后面表示人，這時(shí)，它有an inhabitant of ～ (...的居民），a descendant of ～(...的后代），a follower of ～(...的追隨者），a person associated with ～(與...有關(guān)的人）等意思。
2)加在名詞詞根后面表示物，表示a a mineral species （礦物），a fossil （化石），an explosive （炸藥），a chemical product （化工產(chǎn)品）等意思。
1.appetite
n.physical desire especially for food 欲望；食欲 *ap,ad(=to),pet(=seek)
例句：She had four teenaged boys,each with the appetite of a bear!她有四個(gè)十來(lái)歲的兒子，每個(gè)孩子的胃口都大如熊。
2.exquisite
adj.of great excellence;brought to a high state of perfection 絕妙的，完美無(wú)缺的 *ex(=out),quis(=ask)
例句：What is considered everyday to the local residents,is exquisite to the tourists who come from all over the world to see the fields of poppise.這在當(dāng)?shù)厝丝雌饋?lái)是很平常的東西，對(duì)于從世界各地遠(yuǎn)道而來(lái)欣賞罌粟田野的游客來(lái)說(shuō)卻是妙不可言。
3.granite
n.hard,usually grey stone used for building 花崗巖 *gran(=grain)
例句：Granites is usually gray and is much used for buildings and monuments.花崗巖常為灰色，多用于建造房屋和紀(jì)念碑。
4.graphite
n.soft,blck substance used in lubrication as a moderator in atomic piles,and in making lead pencils黑鉛，石墨 *graph(=write)
例句：Use a graphite spray instead of an oil-based one.請(qǐng)用石墨噴霧代替以前的油墨噴霧。
5.laborite
n.勞工派成員
舉例：He is a laborite but not a member of Labour Party. 他是個(gè)勞工派成員但不是工黨黨員。
6.hematite [hemat = blood 血；-ite → “血紅色的礦石”→]
n. 赤鐵礦，紅鐵礦
舉例：Hematite is widely distributed in this area. 該地區(qū)赤鐵礦分布很廣。
